The purchase of a building!

The Board of Directors took the great opportunity to purchase the building at 128 Gladys Street in September of 2010, for $40,000. We are now in the process of renovating the building into a health and safety centre. This centre will open a new path for MFWD to present our programs throughout the year at the facility. We will still travel to various communities and events, but with a greater strength of having a home base. The facility can provide seminars, and workshops on agricultural needs of the farmer. Local business and manufacturers can bring special speakers to the centre to encourage a greater connection with the farmer. We can hold support group meetings and social events to help injured and disabled farmers meet with others going through the same experience. It will be the home for MFWD staff and be a active people place! Click Here to read the Media Release. To the right are some pre-renovation pictures of the building. We will post more pictures as the renovation progresses. Click a thumbnail to see the full-sized image.

The Building Campaign!

The Building Campaign has a proposed budget of $288,000 and was passed by the members of MFWD at the Annual General Meeting on March 26, 2011. This budget will cover expenses for all electrical, heating and building renovations. Our hope is that funding will also come in to pay off the mortgage. The Building Campaign is set up to receive donations online or by mail.

Who we are!

MFWD has been presenting farm safety programs since 1998.Over the years we have developed important programs that demonstrate to children, youth and adults, how quickly an accident can happen. Through the use of a motorized 1/16 scale farm machinery showcase our volunteers demonstrate the potential hazards associated with various farming equipment.Tractor rollovers and entanglements are the major causes of injuries and fatalities to farmers and children. We encourage farm families to use safety at all times.

Our Goal!

MFWD is committed to safety education to farming communities and sharing the importance of health and safety. It is our hope that agricultural injuries and fatalities will decrease as farmers increase their knowledge of safety procedures. Safe farms make for safer families.

Farming is one of the top 3 most hazardous careers. MFWD volunteers and members want to see farming become one of the safest. We encourage young people to be involved and active members in their community in promoting safety. Farming is a productive career opportunity.Through our prevention initiatives we offer safety training, agricultural presentations, attend agricultural exhibitions and schools across Manitoba.

How do we finance our work?

All our programs are presented by trained and dedicated volunteers and financially supported by committed businesses and private donors. We could not do our work without their help and financial support. Each year we ask our volunteers to attend more events and give more to promoting farm safety. We are grateful that each and every year our sponsors continue to give so generously to this work.
